How to Choose the Right LED Wall Pack Light
Choosing the right LED wall pack light involves more than simply matching the wattage of the old fixture. Consider the mounting height, area being illuminated, desired lumen output, light distribution, color temperature, voltage, controls, and surrounding conditions.
For retrofit projects, start by identifying the existing lamp and fixture wattage. A 100W, 175W, 250W, or 400W HID wall pack should not automatically be replaced based solely on wattage. LED fixtures can produce the required illumination using considerably less power, so lumen output and application should be considered when selecting the replacement.

What wattage LED replaces a 250W metal halide wall pack?
There isn't one universal LED wattage that replaces every 250W metal halide wall pack. The correct replacement depends on the required lumen output, mounting height, light distribution, fixture efficiency, and application.
Because LED lighting can deliver useful light more efficiently than older HID systems, the replacement LED will generally use substantially less power. Rather than choosing solely by wattage, compare the LED fixture's delivered lumen output and distribution with the lighting needs of the property.
For commercial projects, evaluating the existing fixture and application is the best way to select the appropriate replacement.
Can I retrofit an existing HID wall pack to LED?
Often, yes. Many HID and metal halide wall packs can be converted using an LED retrofit lamp or retrofit kit.
Some LED corn lamps are designed for ballast-bypass/direct-wire installations, which means the existing HID ballast and associated components are removed or disconnected and the socket is wired according to the LED manufacturer's instructions.

A full-cutoff wall pack is designed to direct light primarily downward and minimize light emitted above the fixture.

How long do commercial LED wall pack lights last?
Rated life varies by product and operating conditions, so the manufacturer's specifications should always be checked rather than assuming every LED wall pack has the same lifespan. However, a DLC Listed product should last a minimum of 50,000 hours or 10 years on average, but some will last longer.
LED systems generally eliminate routine HID lamp replacement and direct wire bypass retrofits, can also eliminate the existing HID ballast. Actual service life can be affected by operating temperature, fixture design, driver quality, electrical conditions, installation, and hours of operation.
