The three buildings were selected because they are among the 30 largest carbon emitters in Bristol City Council’s corporate estate and were identified as suitable for decarbonisation through the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme.
Together, the measures are projected to cut annual energy use by 154,008kWh—roughly equivalent to the electricity consumption of 57 typical UK homes. Annual emissions are expected to fall by approximately 28 tonnes of CO2e, comparable to removing around 19 average petrol cars from the road for one year.
Local investment supports public estate improvements
Funding comes from Bristol City Council’s Decarbonisation Fund, the government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme and the Bristol Climate Action Investment. Launched in 2025, the council’s green investment programme raised £2 million after strong participation from residents and businesses, with support from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and Unity Trust Bank.
